MANNY
His full name is Manny Papp, he's 19 and hangs out in San Francisco's
Haight-Ashbury district. David Letterman met Manny when LATE SHOW was
in San Francisco on location, and in a featured skit on the Friday, May
10 broadcast from the City by the Bay, Letterman spent the day "hangin'
with a hippie," Manny. During the show, Letterman gave Manny the thrill
of his life when Blues Traveler's John Popper surprised him on stage
and joined him in a harmonica duet.
Manny became very popular, with his slang "dank" (good), "schwag" (bad),
"diggity dank" (excellent) and "schwiggity schwag" (worst). After the LATE
SHOW's trip to San Francisco, the show named him its summer blockbuster
movie critic. He can now be seen regularly in the segment, "Manny at the
Movies," where he grades movies on the "dank/schwag" scale.
