Cris,
It seems like just yesterday we were all gathered in San Diego at
the Swim Convention. It was a pleasure to visit with the IGLA
swimmers from around the country. Rick and others took the time to
review the history of the Gay Games, the formation of IGLA, and how
to improve relations with USMS. Although I only had that one weekend
to visit with Rick and you, I instantly felt close to you both. I’ve
been reading the numerous stories on the USMS discussion threads.
I’m honored to have been touched by Rick’s life and hope I can
follow him and others to serve USMS and IGLA.
My good friend Anna Lee Roof has told stories of these enchanting
IGLA swimmers at convention, so Rick had already informally made
contact with me.
I’m looking forward to continue my training – I’m soon headed to
USMS SCY Nationals in Indianapolis,. My family lives nearby, so I’ll
get to see my parents, lesbian sister, and her partner, brother and
his young-adult children, and oldest sister and her youngest
daughter, who’s interested in swimming. In June 2004, I’m headed to
Italy to attend the FINA World Master championships in Riccione.
I’ll be in Italy two weeks, and hope to see much of the north –
Venice, the Dolomite Mts, the Alps, and a side trip to Cinge Terra
on the eastern end of the Riviera near Pisa. I’m also looking ahead
to Sept to the Convention and finally to the IGLA Championships in
October in Florida.
I know you’ll find lots of support and this transition will be
difficult. Just know that people all over the USMS Community, IGLA
community, and many others are sending support your way.
