| Dear Cris, Circumstances do not allow me to express these thoughts to you in person. Please know how much I admire your devotion to Rick during these years of adversity and know how much I appreciate the courage and determination with which you both faced the challenges of his illness. I know well that SF Tsunami would simply not exist without the hard work and energy that Rick has put in it. The team has been one of the most important and gratifying experiences of my life: really transformative, and I will always be grateful to you both for your vision and constancy. Rick has led a kind of classic life. Just by being his aggravating, brilliant, loving self he has contributed immensely to the creation of this phenomenon called “gay culture” that has allowed so many of us to flourish in a world otherwise so much less hospitable.
